Pictured here is the hiring center at Home Depot in Van Nuys. Home Depot set up this hiring center at its own expense to get the day laborers from being a dangerous nuisance and so they don't harass customers as they leave. Note the inactivity. This center burned down sometime in 2002 under suspicious circumstances.
The day laborers at the Home Depot didn't use the hiring center. Instead, they prefer to use the busy exit shown below. Both the day laborers and the contractors who hire them, totally ignore the sign warning that soliciting at the exit is illegal (Go to next picture for blowup of sign).
